France & transport. What are you thinking? Strike? No – investment! Who will? Lille will!

And not shyly either. A contract worth € 21 Million has been awarded to Parkeon by the Urban Community of Lille to implement a fully contactless transport system. Lille Métropole – the Lille conurbation – includes 85 municipalities and has a vast public transport network, one of the few in France to offer three travel modes: underground trains, trams and buses.

To put the dots on the Is of a policy aimed at making access to public transport easier, Lille Métropole have decided to invest into the introduction of  a full contactless ticketing system. Today’s press release reads like a Contactless & NFC City slogan: “modern technology in respect of transport ticket media, such as contactless cards and tickets, NFC telephones and contactless USB keys”. Wow. We like. And will now rush off to put Lille in the League.
