The tourist office of Lyon, France, has unveiled a EUR 100,000 project of launching a universal NFC payment wireless smartcard called the “Lyon City Card”.
The project was developed with UK-based Leisure Pass. The card will be valid for two or three days gives tourists free access to all museums, monuments and organised tours, as well as public transportation throughout Lyon. This dual-use is a first in the country and was driven by the public transport service.
An ongoing project in Nice, which incorporates mobile phones, combines universities and institutes with public transport, student and other services. A similar project was announced in Corsica. The RFID pass gives users discounts at over 200 retail partners. It can be ordered online so that it reaches tourists before they are in Lyon. The tourist office aims to sell 25,000 units in the first year.
