Oberthur Technologies strengthens its partnership with OTP Bank in Hungary with prepaid contactless city cards

Oberthur Technologies has reinforced its link with OTP Bank, the largest financial institution in Hungary, to provide contactless payment city cards to the citizen of Pécs, 5th largest city in the country.

The citizen card is an international banking card usable not only for payment but also for other transactions. It is accepted by the 150 million merchants in the Maestro ecosystem. The card is issued in a prepaid format and can easily be refilled through the Internet or with cash in an OTP Bank branch.

“We are very proud of this strengthening of our partnership with OTP Bank which initiates the revolution in proximity payment and the democratisation of city cards. The deployment of this solution by OTP shows the momentum of contactless payment in the Central European region and reinforces Oberthur Technologies’ position as the leading supplier of innovative payment solutions”, said Eric Duforest, Managing Director Europe, Card Systems Division at Oberthur Technologies

OTP Bank deployed the PayPass™ contactless banking card payment technology for first time in Hungary in September 2009.
