Trento

TOTAL SCORE: 25

The north Italian province of Trento has started to make its mark on the contactless map.

In 2008, Telecom Italia Mobile (TIM) carried out a ticketing trial with the city’s public transport operator, Trentino Trasporti. During the pilot, 100 participants were given Sagem my700x cell phones to enable them to buy transport tickets.

The handsets had SIM cards embedded with Gemalto applications, enabling passengers to remotely purchase tickets at anytime and anywhere and validate their travel pass even when the cell phone was turned off.
